Headband Holder

Last Friday it was about the headband so today it’s about the headband holder. Earlier this year I shared a variation of this craft in Issue #3 of Kid’s Crafts 1-2-3. It’s super easy to make and includes a bit of recycling, which I always love and I hope you love it too.

Thrift Store Show and Tell #thriftyHOA

It’s that time of the month when I get together with my crafty friends to hangout and talk shop! This week the topic has been Thrift Stores and today I’m talking about the three things I love to use to update my favorite finds. Paper, paint, and fabric can turn any ho-hum thrift store purchase into a wonderful, personalized addition to your home’s d├ęcor. Just look what I’ve made and some of the out of the ordinary finds I’ve managed to pick up!

Be sure to take some time to view the rest of this week’s Thrift Store Videos! (Note: Some may not have taken place before press time.)

Pin It-Did It: Knotted Headbands

Whenever I found out I was expecting I went on a pinning spree and that is when I found this super cute T-shirt Headband. I don’t have any headbands, at least none that aren’t those really skinny elastic bands, and I have plenty of scrap t-shirts. The tutorial is a no-sew but I’m not keen on hot gluing anything I’m going to be wearing so I did make some adjustments. My notes are below!

50+ Cuss Word Alternatives

In a few of my previous lives, I was a sailor, and judging by my vocabulary I’d say I wasn’t just a sailor but one kick-ass pirate! Unfortunately, as my husband tells me…all…the…time…cursing makes you look unintelligent. Now, both my fellow sailors and I know that that’s not true. Using words incorrectly makes you look stupid and cuss words are not normally used incorrectly, at least not by me.

Anyhow, I’m a mom, blah, blah, blah, so I am trying to be a good example and all that jazz. So a couple of months ago I asked my friends on Facebook to give me their best bad word alternatives. Here is a VERY EXTENSIVE LIST with some explanations here and there. (Corresponding blogs are linked.)

Craft Fail: Cat Scratch Posts

I don’t know if this classifies as a craft fail or a crafty miscommunication. See, our cat is slowly pulling up the carpet on one particular step and one particular corner of the living room. Obviously, she needs a scratching post, but being the DIY and recyclin’ gal that I am I tried using materials I had on hand to create our own scratchboards. The problem is, she doesn’t seem to realize they are there for her. So she’s moved to a different step on the staircase and a different corner of the living room. Oh, well, maybe if you have a kitten who hasn’t yet experienced the joys of ripping up carpeting they might fall for this crafty alternative.
