Origami Inspired Felt Bowls
Over the last year I've seen a number of DIY leather catch-all bowls but, and I'm going to be honest here, I don't normally craft with leather, and even if I did, I'd be terrified of mess-ups! Thankfully felt is an affordable crafting medium I feel confident creating with.
When I started playing around with a few pieces I was actually hoping to make a felt origami dress, that didn't happen, but I was able to create this little bowl and thought it was the perfect budget-friendly alternative to those leather varieties.
For this project you’ll need:
Step 1: Fold two outer sides in until they meet in the middle.
Step 2: Fold down the end of your felt about an inch and open up the fold, exactly as it is in the photo.
Step 3: Push the outer corners of the fold in to create a diamond and smooth down.
Step 4: Pin the fold in place, being sure not to include the bottom layer of felt.
Flip the piece of felt around repeat steps 2 – 4 on the other end. Repeat everything with your second piece of felt.
Put the smaller bowl inside the larger and join together by stitching a simple blanket stitch around the top.
I really love this little bowl because my husband is usually asleep for hours before I finally get to bed, with a felt bowl I can empty my pockets without waking him up, something I know he appreciates! Then there’s always candy; but don’t blink, in a six person household those sweets won’t last a day!

For this project you’ll need:
- 2 pieces of felt in different colors
- embroidery floss in coordinating color
To get started I cut the felt into squares, making one of them half an inch smaller than the other. I went with 7” in the grey and 6 1/2” in the baby blue. Next up is the folding, I’m going to try my best to explain it, hopefully the images below will be of help.
