This marks my second year taking part in the Handmade Holidays Blog Hop! You'll be able to read more details about it, including all the other crafting inspirations, killer sponsors, and monster of a giveaway further into this post. Right now, I want to tell you about this year's project!
I have a thing for personalizing when it comes to the holidays, last year I made personalized t-shirts, and this time around it's personalized rustic ornaments using Walnut Hollow's Basswood Country Rounds®. These wood slices add the perfect amount of warmth and charm. They'll look lovely on your tree and could also be used as gift tags. Here are the three steps to making them.
This post has been sponsored by Walnut Hollow®. All opinions expressed are my own.
- Walnut Hollow Basswood Country Rounds®
- Creative Versa-Tool®
- Hot Stamps Alphabet lower and uppercase
- florist moss
- faux snow (mini styrofoam balls)
- glue and scissors
Step 1: Burn your names along the edge of the wood rounds.
When it comes to wood burning I can not stress enough how important it is to follow the directions provided with the Versa-Tool®. As you can see in the image above I always keep a piece of scrap wood nearby to test on and set the hot stamps on while they cool.
TIP: Save time and effort by doing all of one letter before switching to another. Cooled or unused Hot Stamps work as excellent place holders so that the letter spacing stays in line.
Step 2: Use the scissors to cut pieces of moss. Glue it and the faux snow opposite the name on the ornament.
The moss is very absorbent so a good liquid glue works best with it. The styrofoam balls are a nothing all together! The challenge there is fighting the static to get them where you need them.
Step 3: When everything has dried, drill a hole into the ornament and use keep the nature feel by using twine for hanging.
I'm so happy with how these turned out! Adding the moss and fake snow is an easy way to turn a plain project into something really special that stands out for it's rustic and simple charm.
As I mentioned, this is my second project for the Handmade Holiday Blog Hop. This year the hop is running over three days! It features a crazy amount of holiday themed projects, there is a list of today's projects at the end of this post.
Another key component of this hop is the amazing assortment of products the sponsors give away. This is a truly great bunch of companies; if you have a chance be sure to visit their sites. To see what they'll be giving away and to get entered to win, scroll down a little further.
Special Thanks to all the Handmade Holiday Blog Hop Sponsors!
