Easter Tin Can Creatures–Craft Quickies

Most of the crafts I attempt are time-consuming, so much so that they usually end up in the big pile of unfinished projects hidden in my crafting room.  So when I found out Angie of Country Chic Cottage and Carolina of Moore Craft Time and Always Expect Moore were going to be spotlighting Craft Quickies I decided to challenge myself to come up with a quick, completed craft.  To up the difficulty, I also made it my mission to get rid of some of the recycling items I’ve been squirreling away.

After many failed attempts I finally came up with the Easter Tin Can Creatures you see above.  I wasn’t too impressed with them but once they got the kids squeal of approval I figured they couldn’t be that bad.  I trust my kids to tell me the truth, whether I want to hear it or not.

My original project ended up taking a few hours but I am very proud and excited about how it turned out.  Stick around, I’m going to be posting about it next week.

  • googly eyes
  • small pink pom-poms

Directions

Start off by covering your tin can with the crepe paper or streamers.

For the bunny, I cut 1-1 1/2 inch strips of tissue paper, folded them in half and then glued them around the can.

When wrapping the can for the chick be sure to add the wings and beak so that they peek out from under the tissue or crepe paper.

Now that most of the work is done, begin adding the distinguishing touches, googly eyes, cotton ball tails, and the other items below.

032
Whiskers: Cut three or four, three inch pieces of the nylon thread. Tie in the middle and glue onto rabbit’s face, glue pink pom-pom over the knot.
033
Bunny Ears:  I simply cut out four ear shapes with the white paper, two more smaller shapes with the pink, glued it all together and then glued to the inside of the can.

Chick beak: I actually cut the corner off of a stained napkin, but you can simply cut a triangle out of any orange fabric, paper, or felt.

Chick wings: Cut out a wing shape with yellow cardstock or even yellow construction paper.

020Chick feet: Pipe cleaners shaped and hot glued to the bottom of the can.

Aren’t they cute?  You know what makes them even cuter? Filling them with shredded paper and a couple of sweet treats!

***Note:  It takes 15 minutes for each creature…I did not make them both within that time frame.***
