Holiday Entertaining Tips

I love hosting holiday celebrations! Sure, it can be a bit of work, but it’s also fun to welcome guests into your home and enjoy time together. Today, I’m sharing a handful of tips that'll make everything run smoothly whether you have visitors over for a couple of hours or a couple of days.

Tips for Hosting House Guests

1. STOCK UP NOW!

Holiday Stock Up

I’m starting this list with what I think is the MOST important tip to hosting. Stock up on bath tissue and make it easy for guests to find. I’m not kidding with this one. I get it, you keep your stash in the hallway closet, so do we! But, no one wants to be left with an empty roll, especially not Grandma, so stock up!

Angel Soft® at Family Dollar stores.

Angel Soft® bath tissue is designed with softness, strength, and a price that makes it easy to stock up without breaking the bank. And, if you’re looking to save even more during the holidays make a stop by Family Dollar.

Family Dollar can help you save with a Smart Coupons program that makes it easy to clip coupons without actually needing to clip coupons or print anything out. Here’s a quick video on how it works:

Now through December 27th, Family Dollar shoppers can save 50¢ on BOTH Angel Soft® bath tissue and Sparkle® paper towels, for a total of $1.00 in savings via Smart Coupons.*

2. MAKE AND BAKE AHEAD OF TIME

Oatmeal Thumbprint Cookies

I'm sure you've read it a million times get your baking done ahead of time. It's so easy to say, but not so easy to do! I always look at it this way, getting something made in advance, even if it’s only a day ahead of time, will always make your tomorrow more efficient. Plus, while the cookies are baking you can work on the next two tips!

3. APPLIANCE MAINTENANCE

Clean Kitchen Handles

No one wants the dishwasher to go on the fritz Thanksgiving night nor do your guests want coffee from the pot that’s been sitting in your garage for the last five years. Clean your machines both inside and out, and then make sure they are in working order. And while you're at it WIPE DOWN EVERY HANDLE IN YOUR KITCHEN! They don't get nearly enough attention.

Sparkle® paper towels

Sparkle® paper towels are the just right towels that get the job done, including cleaning out the dish soap grime in the bottom of the dishwasher that you don’t want to touch! Sparkle® paper towels are already at a good price and remember when you shop at Family Dollar you can save even more using Smart Coupons!

4. CLEAN OUT YOUR PANTRY

Holiday Baking Preperations

Cleaning out your pantry serves two purposes. First, it makes it easier for guests to find snacks or help out in the kitchen. Just because YOU know that the almonds are behind the peanut butter doesn’t mean they will. Second, there’s nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of a bake-a-thon and realizing you out of cocoa. Clean out your pantry now, literally today, and save yourself from the inconvenience.

5. CHILDPROOF YOUR HOME

Kids In The Hall

Guess what, even when you tell kids not to run in the house, they run in the house. If you know you’re going to have younger guests take a few minutes and make sure all breakables are out of their reach. Close doors or invest in a baby gate, I promise it’ll be the best $20 you ever spent.

6. HOUSE GUEST CHEAT SHEET

House Guests Cheat Sheet

Whether your overnight guests are visiting for the night or the week, a cheat sheet will save them the trouble of hunting down an extra towel or looking up your wifi password. Here is a handy House Guest printable that covers all the major questions your guest might have. Print it out and keep it in a convenient location or go ahead and include it in a welcome basket in your guest room.

There are about a million other tips I could give, but these are the key ones to ensure your holiday entertaining is relatively stress-free!

What kinds of ways do you make your holidays run smoothly?
