Craft Lightning: Glitter Spider Web Trivets

@mvemother Glitter Spider Web Trivets

Last year, I made these super quick and easy Spider Web Clings but this time instead of making webs for the windows I wanted to make a trivet for our Halloween table.  After a night on Google and Pinterest I found this very stylish, glittered web via Redbook.

Is it just me or do magazines have a habit of complicating an otherwise simple craft?  There’s no need to tape wax paper together or try to use a spatula to remove your web, all you need to do is follow these easy instructions and you’ll be able to serve up all your Halloween décor on a spider web.

I’m happy to add that this is an official Craft Lightning Project!  Check out Moore Craft Time and The Country Chic Cottage all week long as they share and feature crafts that take less than 15 minutes to complete (not counting dry time).

Supplies
  • School Glue (Elmer’s or RoseArt, it doesn’t really matter)
  • Glitter
  • plastic wrap
  • cookie sheet
  • patience
Directions

First line a cookie sheet with your plastic wrap.  Then, using your glue make a giant eight-sided asterisk.  Be sure to get all your lines nice and thick, it will shrink up a little as it dries.

Now, you can either spiral a line of glue from the center to the outer edges of your web, or you can make one circle at a time until you’ve reached the size you want your web.  I chose the latter.  Unfortunately half-way through I ran out of Elmer’s and switched to RoseArt.  Though I could tell a difference in the types of glue, they both dried the same.  I did thicken these lines after I took the picture.

@mvemother Preparing your Spider Web Trivet
With your glue web done it’s time to get your glitter on!  I went pretty heavy (used 3/4 of the bottle) with some black Crafty Chica glitter.  Now sit it aside and let it dry.  After a good 12 hours you should be able to lift the sides of the plastic wrap and shake off some of the excess glitter.

@mvemother Adding the Glitter to our Spider Webs
This took such a long time to dry it was driving me crazy.  You know me, Miss Impatience, I was not prepared for the waiting I’d have to do, so after about 16 hours I went ahead and peeled the web for the plastic wrap.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t completely dry yet, but flipping it over speed up the drying process immensely!

Tada!  A quick and easy way to add a little sparkle to your Halloween decorations!  I want to note, I actually have a few more made with orange and white glitter, but alas…they’re still drying!
