Orange Rolls

Don’t reach for the cinnamon, grab an orange instead and roll up these deliciously light treats! (Previously shared on PB&J Stories)
Orange Rolls

Ingredients
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 5 Tbsp. of sugar (this will be separated out)
  • 4 tsp. of baking powder
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 cup of milk
  • powdered sugar
  • 1 orange
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter

Directions

Preheat over to 450 degrees.  Zest the orange and combine it with the juice and 2 Tbsp. of sugar.  I used small oranges so I zested two but used the juice of only one.

Sift/whisk together the flour, 3 Tbsp. of sugar, and baking powder before cutting in the shortening.  Add the milk and mix until just combined.  Turn out onto a counter lightly floured with powdered sugar and shape into a rectangle 1/2 an inch thick.

Spread the melted butter and then the orange mixture over the dough before rolling it up like a cinnamon roll.

Cut into 1/2 inch thick slices and beware, it may get messy.

Place in a well-sprayed or greased pan.  Cover and set aside for 10 minutes.  Bake in a hot over for 15 minutes.  Remove from oven and let cool.

Serve with butter, and if you really like a lot of orange, marmalade. Makes 12-14 servings.
