Today’s assignment was to take advantage of the “golden hour.” A storm is rolling in right now so instead of waiting for that perfect sunlight I went outside and took advantage of the pre-storm lighting, cool, clean-smelling air, and the creation of an egg.
Since getting rid of our mean rooster the girls have started to warm back up to us humans. I think they’re thankful he’s not here to bite their necks anymore, if you know what I mean. Anyhow, I caught Goldie while she was preoccupied laying an egg, wondered around the yard, and snapped the budding persimmon tree. When I got back to the coop there was her precious egg. It’s funny when you’re there, with them, it IS like a birth. There’s a need to be silent and to respect the silence. A need to give her some space to breathe and be in that moment. It doesn’t matter if you’re a chicken or a human.
Without further ado, here are the photos I took this afternoon.
