About a week and a half ago I decided for Christmas I would make all my nieces and nephews, along with my own kids, a hat for Christmas. That’s a total of 10 hats, five boys and five girls.

For the boys I decided to go with the Monster Hat from The Boy Trifecta it’s just cute and both my young gentlemen, ages 6 and 14, gave their approval. I did change up the color scheme on a couple and I went ahead and crocheted the teeth.

For the girls I went with two different designs, baby owls and flower power. The flower power hats are just a basic hat with a Rosette, ala Lion Brand Yarn. I’ve been seeing owls and other hats like that for a while now and I thought that it might be a quick and easy make, yay, I was right.

To make the owls I chained 30 then began double crocheting down and around that chain. For the three month of niece I crocheted four rows before decreasing my stitch ( I decreased every four stitches). Then I went on to crochet seven more rows. So if you’re keeping count that’s a total of 12 rows of stitches. For the older niece I didn’t decrease until the last row, just to keep the hat on her head. For the eyes I just used what I’d learned from the boys hat. The nose…I winged it. Just play around you’ll get it.
I hope they like them!
